Whether you call it 2’s Day or TWOSday - 2/22/22 - February 22, 2022, which also happens to be a Tuesday, is such an anomaly it has captured pop culture’s imagination. Urban Dictionary predicts that the “world will annihilate itself with the antimatter version of the Earth and start the Universe again, restarting on 2’s day again, and again, and again.” Instead, we at SHARE Omaha propose that we honor this oddity of a palindrome date with a day of good.

What is a Circle Moment?

As recent news coverage from 3 News Now has illuminated, a few of our pillar human services organizations are being challenged by the need for volunteers. COVID-19 has strained or halted their typical streams of ongoing and one-time volunteers, leaving a daily need for help in order to continue delivering their services to our neighbors who need them most.

On January 17, 2022, SHARE Omaha turns three years old! It’s been thrilling to see the Omaha/Council Bluffs metro welcome this multi-functional giving platform and expand what it means to be generous – with time, dollars and items.
 
We’ve seen good happen every day, for over 1,000 days, as local supporters get connected to the causes that matter most to them throughout eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa. The generosity has been overwhelming in these first three years, supporting over 650 organizations, and we can’t wait to see what big things you make happen next.

We at SHARE Omaha hope that you're experiencing fresh, new energy as we enter this exciting new year.  As we shared here, our community partnerships manager Mary Talen retired at the end of the year after almost three years of great service to SHARE Omaha. We will always be appreciative of her onboarding so many nonprofits and being such a great support to our nonprofit members.

SHARE Omaha is honored that our Community Partnerships Manager, Mary Talen, saved her best for last. From day one in November 2018, Mary shaped the launch of our community connection platform by recruiting and managing so many crucial relationships.

Mary Talen has announced her plans to retire at the end of the year, and we know her retirement will be the beginning of an "even better" chapter. 

In just three years, Mary and SHARE Omaha have accomplished much and Mary has been key to growth from the very beginning.

The results are in! For Giving Tuesday 2021:

$5.49 million was given to nonprofits
8,000 items were purchased from wish lists
500 volunteer hours were logged

Our metro area has a great opportunity to show generosity and gratefulness this month and many area businesses are leading by example. The spirit of Giving Tuesday, a global movement, is to show the strength and unity of communities through radical generosity, and that's just what our treasured local businesses are doing.
