#GivingEveryTuesday: Addiction

CenterPointe

“Good health is foundational to everything else. Healthy minds and bodies result in strong communities. CenterPointe is in the business of helping people find hope for a healthy and happy life. When your circumstances present a difficult challenge, we offer many avenues to help you move forward, finding hope for a positive future. Step by step, success after success comes healthy and happy.”-Topher Hansen, CenterPointe CEO/President

The business of healthcare has been challenging and has required us to rely on donations like never before. We are on track to serve a record number of individuals this year and need help to continue meeting our community's growing needs. Your donation helps create a stronger community.

CenterPointe offers over 40 programs, including mental health and substance use treatment, primary care services, rehabilitation, medication management, 24-hour crisis response, and housing. Most of those served experience severe and persistent mental illness, addiction, and health issues. Nearly all are low or no income. Last year alone, we served over 4,500 individuals. With campuses in both Lincoln and Omaha, plus serving individuals from all over Nebraska, we have been helping people get better, sooner, for longer for over 50 years.

CenterPointe is the only nonprofit co-occurring residential facility in Omaha. Meaning that the program is designed to help individuals understand how mental illness and addiction interact with each other, opposed to treating just addiction.

CenterPointe uses person-first language and tries to avoid using generalizations and identifying people by their illness. This language helps to curb the stigma of mental illness and substance use. The community can help by adopting this person-centered language. Examples include: “substance use” instead of “substance abuse”, and “A person diagnosed with a substance use disorder” instead of “They are an alcoholic or drug addict”.
