More ways to volunteer in the greater Omaha metro

CQuence Health, the lead sponsor of #GivingTuesday402, is going extra big with their giving this year, leaning in to giving their time as well as their financial support for the benefit of our local nonprofit community! They recently came together for 40 days of giving as a team, and they still have energy for more.

CQuence Health employees are so eager to volunteer during this season of giving, they asked for ideas of new places to serve. If you’re looking to test drive a new volunteer experience, one of these opportunities might be right for you, too.

Hearts United for Animals is a no-kill shelter that features hundreds of dogs and cats available for adoption.  Programs include low cost spay/neuter, emergency medical care for dogs or cats whose owners cannot afford to save their lives, educational programs, and temporary housing for pets of families fleeing domestic violence.

  • Animal Socialization - Provide socialization to dogs/cats in need of emotional support--play, basic training, leash-training, grooming, introduce other dogs in safe spaces, etc.

  • Care Closet Volunteers - Help maintain the store by sorting and organizing clothes.  In 2023 the closet provided items to over 920 children/family members.

QLI helps survivors of devastating brain and spinal cord injuries get back to life. The population QLI serves, primarily individuals between the ages of 16 and 65, is as diverse as its diagnoses are complex.

  • Happy Hour Helping Hands - Help in their non-alcoholic sports bar during "Happy Hour." Volunteers will work side-by-side with a QLI Team Member to serve soda, coffee, tea, and other specialty drinks to residents of QLI's long-term care program.  The sports bar hosts varying social activities such as karaoke, watching a big game like March Madness, playing cards, watching The Bachelor, or whatever else is trending.

Bethlehem House provides housing for pregnant women, age 19 and older. They supply pathways for attaining quality prenatal care, essential parenting skills, and economic security through education and employment.

  • Feed Our Families - Provide dinner either for the residents (15 people total) or for an AfterCare Community night (20-40 people).

Kountze Commons Community Outreach Center provides crucial life-saving services to those who need it most, by providing food assistance, primary health care, behavioral health care, and social services to vulnerable populations in Omaha.

Learning Community Foundation of Douglas and Sarpy Counties raises funds to expand and augment the Learning Community's innovative and collaborative programs that are proving to raise student achievement across the eleven school districts in the Omaha metro area.

  • Child Learning Classroom Volunteers– Interact with children in the Center's Child Learning Classrooms while their parents are participating in English As A Second Language classes where they are learning to better support their children in school.

The Salvation Army serves as a beacon of help and hope, providing food, housing, youth development, material assistance, behavioral health support, older adult services, anti-human trafficking support and emergency disaster services to thousands seeking support and assistance in the Omaha metro.

  • Notes of Encouragement – Provide encouraging cards, artwork, and positive quotes to help individuals overcoming homelessness, emotional instability, or addiction move forward in their journey.

Project Harmony is the resource for child abuse services and training in the Omaha metro area and surrounding communities.

Adopt a Family 2024 – Donors typically purchase 2-3 gifts per person; the gift cost is entirely up to you. It is asked that the same amount is spent per family member.
