Military Appreciation Month: Big Red Sub Club

May is Military Appreciation Month! In 1999, Congress designated May as National Military Appreciation Month to ensure the nation was given the chance to publicly show their appreciation for troops past and present.

The Big Red Sub Club is a volunteer community support organization for the crew of the USS NEBRASKA SSBN 739 Submarine, commissioned in 1993. They sponsor twice yearly visits for 6 crew members in June and September to their namesake, the great state of Nebraska. Since 1993, crew activities have included participation in the College World Series, Nebraska land Days, River City Roundup, Apple Fest Days and UNL Football home game activities. You can donate and support the work of The Big Red Sub Club here.

"The sailors come back and it is a support from the community here to thank them for their service," says Dale Andersen, Big Red Red Sub Club.
