What We Do

The Big Red Sub Club is a volunteer community support organization for the crew of the USS NEBRASKA SSBN 739 Submarine, commissioned in 1993. We sponsor twice yearly visits for 6 crew members in June and September to their namesake, the great state of Nebraska. Since 1993, crew activities have included participation in the College World Series, Nebraska land Days, River City Roundup, Apple Fest Days and UNL Football home game activities. The crews have had visits to the Henry Doorly Zoo, Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum, Boys Town, Children’s Hospital and area schools. They visit other towns across the state including Nebraska City, Beatrice, Lincoln, Grand Island, Kearney, Hastings, York and Norfolk. The crew participates in radio and television interviews, visits to businesses including ranches and farms, school presentations, civic club presentations and countless visits with local and state leaders including mayors, senators and the governor.
