Volunteer Voices: Caitlin, Stephen Center

Meet Caitlin, a Stephen Center volunteer who serves up more than food. She gives a bit of positivity and encouragement to everyone she encounters during her time volunteering at the Stephen Center, an incredible five to six days a week.

“We created a volunteer role specifically for Caitlin because of the strengths that she brings to the table,” says Beth Ellis, Stephen Center community engagement director.

Caitlin is a doer. Through the breakfast and the lunch hour, Caitlin is core to Stephen Center’s dining hall operations, getting people drinks, offering to take their trays up for them, wiping down the tables and getting the tables cleared for the next group that comes in.

As a graduate of the Stephen Center HERO program herself, Caitlin is an example to current participants. When women come in, new to the program, she spends time sharing her graduation experience and letting them know they can get through it.

“She’s given hope to people that are walking in almost hopeless, scared, confused, not real. Caitlin shows them what they're looking forward to; they see her in this capacity now, giving back. It’s beautiful,” shares Beth.

“She’s a true bringer of joy.”
