It's time to end mental health stigma: WhatMakesUs
This story is shared by The Public Good Projects in Partnership with The Well Being Partners.
In these challenging times, taking care of our emotional, physical, and mental wellbeing has never been more important. Almost 40 percent of Americans are now showing signs of clinical anxiety or depression. In Nebraska, that number is 30 percent.
Although mental health conditions are extremely common, we rarely talk openly about our mental health in the way we do about our physical health. It’s time that’s changed. WhatMakesUs is a new local initiative collecting stories from community members living with mental health conditions, and their allies, to highlight what makes them who they are — not defined by a mental health condition.
WhatMakesUs was created by The Wellbeing Partners and PGP (The Public Good Projects) to reduce mental health stigma and create healthier, happier, communities across the Greater Omaha and Council Bluffs area. By using the power of storytelling, these stories give a face to conditions that often stay hidden showing that people with mental health conditions are really no different from those without.
If you or someone you know has a story to tell, offer to share your story. Together we can change the conversation about mental health. Learn more about WhatMakesUs at whatmakesus.com.
