Giving Tuesday demonstrates the metro's philanthropy

WHO: SHARE Omaha is preparing for the year’s biggest day of philanthropy locally and across the globe. Giving Tuesday, the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, is recognized as the day to give back and support the greater Omaha metro community’s nonprofits.

WHAT: Giving Tuesday in the greater Omaha metro is the biggest, local giving day of the year. The annual event, which takes place globally the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, is recognized as the day to give back and support local community nonprofits.

WHEN: GIVING TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2023. On this day SHARE Omaha encourages the community to give local to their favorite causes in the midlands. Ways to support 700+ organizations are available 356 days a year so donors can explore and support causes year-round and then join in the Giving Tuesday celebration on November 28th.

WHY:  Nonprofits are still recovering financially from the recent pandemic and because volunteers have still not returned at pre-pandemic numbers, organizations are needing to hire staff to fulfill their missions. The national value of a volunteer hour is $31.80 so every gift of $31.80 or more matches the value of a volunteer hour and helps a nonprofit meet a need in the community from food insecurity to sheltering an animal, to caring for a child.

There are many people in our neighborhoods in need of shelter, food, mental health services and more so SHARE Omaha wants Giving Tuesday to lift up these urgent needs so each of us can take action for our desired causes. Early giving for Giving Tuesday is now open and donors can enter donation code GIVINGTUESDAY at checkout at SHAREomaha.org to indicate their early participation in the biggest, local giving day of the year.

Giving Tuesday in the metro is powered by SHARE Omaha. The campaign’s Collective Impact Lead Sponsors for #Giving Tuesday402 are Medical Solutions and CQuence Health along with supporting sponsors Farm Credit Services of America and Kiewit Corporation.
