Giving Tuesday brings boost to local nonprofits
OMAHA, NEB - SHARE Omaha announces that the Omaha metro rose to the challenge and surpassed $20 million in cumulative giving over the years for Giving Tuesday on December 3, 2024! With offline giving reports still coming in, donations for Giving Tuesday since the beginning of SHARE Omaha’s community organization efforts in 2019 crest $22.4 million and counting.
Amid national concerns of decreased donations for nonprofit organizations, almost 11,000 people explored SHAREomaha.org on Giving Tuesday in search of local causes to support. SHARE Omaha celebrates that 24% of gifts were from new donors introducing themselves to causes that matter to them.
“Our community’s support for Giving Tuesday, the biggest day of local giving, is overwhelming! People dug deep and gave generously to find new nonprofits to support and boost their favorite nonprofits, and we can’t say thank you enough. Every gift matters this year to sustain our hardworking nonprofits organizations into 2025,” said Teresa Mardesen, SHARE Omaha executive director.
SHARE Omaha’s mission is year-round, in addition to being the community organizer of #GivingTuesday402. SHARE Omaha connects community supporters with ways to take action by volunteering, donating, attending events and giving items. A one-stop everyday donation platform, SHARE Omaha does not keep any portion of what is donated. To date in 2024, over 137,000 metro Omahans have explored SHAREomaha.org to find volunteer, donation and event opportunities that shape the community they want to live in.
“The beauty of the SHARE Omaha platform is that people can give to nonprofits in one place all year. We understand the pressure on budgets at the holidays so SHAREomaha.org allows our community to give year-around when it fits their timing and their budget,” Mardesen explained.
SHARE Omaha is the community organizer of #GivingTuesday402 and receives support from CQuence Health, Kiewit, Dundee Bank and Farm Credit Services of America to make the biggest local giving day of the year possible.
