Domestic Violence Awareness Month: WCA

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to acknowledge domestic violence survivors and be a voice for its victims.

The Women's Center for Advancement (WCA) is the go-to place for anyone in the Omaha area who is experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking or human trafficking. Their free, high-quality services address clients’ safety needs both immediate and long-term, and help them to grow into independence over time. The WCA assures that no victim will ever walk alone in their journey.

This month, the WCA encourages us to learn the signs of abuse. The Power and Control Wheel illustrates that domestic violence is not someone losing their temper one time, or a fight that gets out of hand. It’s a pattern of behaviors, whether physical, sexual, or mental, designed to gain power and maintain control over the victim.

Anyone who wishes to support the work of WCA to help survivors achieve safety is encouraged to:

  • Donate to WCA
  • Give gently used clothing, personal care items, diapers, nonperishable food items, and feminine products. WCA accepts in person deliveries or purchases of new items shipped via their wish list.
