Find your fit and become a mentor

Written by Katie Fourney    on January 27, 2020    in
January is National Mentoring Month. Find your fit and become a mentor now.

Mentors connect, befriend and guide. The impact of mentors is tangible. Mentoring is linked to improved academic, social and economic prospects for Omaha/Council Bluffs metro young people who become the future leaders of our community.

It can feel daunting to be a part of helping youth make responsible choices, but for many it’s natural! The first step is to show up.

Shelley, a GOAL buddy for Partnership 4 Kids, views her time with Gifford Park Elementary students as a break in the day.

Written by Katie Fourney    on October 9, 2019    in
Assistance League® of Omaha’s Operation School Bell® is a program that offers over 4,000 children the opportunity to shop for new clothing at JCPenney at Westroads Mall. Research shows that when children feel good about what they are wearing, attendance and grades improve.

This effort wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of 450 volunteers. Many parents say they appreciate the kind and welcoming Assistance League of Omaha volunteers.

Written by Katie Fourney    on May 8, 2019    in
Wow, Omaha metro! You sure know how to do good.

Each year, National Volunteer Week falls in April. But we know the needs of the metro are too overwhelming to contain in one week. So, SHARE Omaha declared April (do)GOOD month in the Omaha metro. And wow, you really embraced this month of volunteerism!

Individuals raised their hands to help Omaha Rapid Response and Food Bank for the Heartland with flood relief. To walk animals at Midlands Humane Society, drive for Meals on Wheels and join the Dreamweaver Foundation Dream Team.

Fiona: A different kind of education

Written by Fiona    on April 8, 2019    in

Fiona is a soon-to-be English Teaching Assistant at the University of Nebraska-Omaha who is dependent on art to keep her alive. When she’s not writing creative nonfiction about gender, astrology or how to make the human experience better, she’s trying to find her new favorite horror movie.

As a college intern for SHARE Omaha, we asked her to write a little bit about why she is moved to give back to the community. Pledge to volunteer alongside her and hundreds more here.
