Giving Tuesday Heroes: Local reporters and media

Written by Katie Fourney    on December 14, 2020    in
On December 1st, the metro showed up in a big way, almost doubling giving from 2019’s Giving Tuesday. (Read the full results, here.) How did this happen, you ask? A key ingredient to this powerful day was overwhelming support from local media: every tv station, radio station, newspaper and more.

These partners deserve the thanks of our whole community:
  • Houck contributed queen-sized bus ads
  • Lamar and Link contributed outdoor billboard space
  • KETV NewsWatch 7, WOWT 6 News and KMTV 3 News Now contributed PSA commercials and covered the news story
  • Cox Media contributed PSA commercials

The Power of All: Why we SHARE

Written by Katie Fourney    on November 15, 2020    in
As the saying goes, sharing is caring.

On Giving Tuesday, sharing is something everyone can do to participate – even if you’re not active on social media.

While posting and following and liking on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram about all the good happening on Dec. 1 is highly encouraged, sharing also means giving gifts, giving our time and giving pieces of ourselves. It’s all important on Giving Tuesday.

Supporting #GivingTueday402 during World AIDS Day!

Written by Katie Fourney    on November 15, 2020    in
In light of #GivingTuesday402, organized by SHARE Omaha, the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Public Health is partnering with Nebraska AIDS Project. Nebraska AIDS Project provides HIV/AIDS services and programs within the region. For Giving Tuesday, which also coincides with World AIDS Day, COPH students, faculty, staff, and alumni will share kindness through creating awareness about HIV/AIDS and the exceptional services offered by NAP. Collaborative efforts will be done through a social media campaign with participants sharing and liking social media posts, using the hashtag #GivingTuesday402. They hope to make it trend on social media for 3 days: the day before, the day of and the day after December 1st.

The Power of All: Why we DO

Written by Katie Fourney    on November 12, 2020    in
We do what we do because of our “why.”

In other words, what motivates us is often more than the action itself – it’s the meaning behind it that is the real driver.

Having a clear “why” gives you a context for your life and can help you focus how you spend your time. And, your passions in life can help inform how you want to give your time to others. Volunteering can add another layer of purpose to your life, and can help connect you to micro-communities of like-minded people.

At SHARE Omaha, our “why” is to help nonprofits fulfill their missions. This is our guiding light and the reason we stay so enthusiastic about our community. We see incredible changes and lives improved every single day. We want you to experience this, too, and an important opportunity is coming up on Dec. 1: Giving Tuesday.

Giving Tuesday: Harnessing the Power of All

The Power of All: Why we GIVE

Written by Katie Fourney    on November 9, 2020    in

Simply put, we give back because it feels good.

Doing good deeds, whether it’s sharing gifts, time or kindness, gives us a warm-glow feeling — a sense of joy and satisfaction that comes with helping others.

Research has also shown that people are more likely to donate to a specific person’s cause versus an abstract problem or a large group of people. Understanding a person’s story develops a deeper emotional connection and elicits a desire to help.
