Some call it stories. Others call it a blog. But here you will find nuggets of goodness to use and -- you guessed it -- SHARE!
A 5-year-old's thoughts about volunteering and helping others
A 5-year-old spent two hours volunteering at Open Door Mission, sorting toys and restocking shelves. These are the thoughts he shared on the drive home, about volunteering and helping others:
Volunteer Voices: Lachelle, Project Harmony
Project Harmony is the resource for child abuse services and training in the Omaha metro area and surrounding communities. They help community members protect and support the most vulnerable among us - restoring courage, facilitating healing and empowering community members to be someone in the life of a child.
We asked Project Harmony to tell us about a superstar volunteer and we heard all about Lachelle. Naturally, we had to hear from Lachelle why she is so giving of her time!
Medical Solutions volunteers at Nebraska Diaper Bank
We tagged along on September 27th to see Medical Solutions in action at Nebraska Diaper Bank and get a glimpse of their volunteer needs. Thank you for serving our community, Medical Solutions!
Volunteer Voices: Tim, Kiewit
I've been hearing of Kiewit employees volunteering across the greater Omaha metro and wanted to learn more about their efforts. Tim, who leads the Kiewit Culture of Service Committee spent some time with me to explain their why, the benefits of volunteerism that he has observed, and his advice for others looking to start a volunteer program.
Kiewit Corporation shares that their business ethics are their four core values – People, Integrity, Excellence and Stewardship.
Farm Credit Services of America volunteers at EPIC for Girls
Last week, a couple dozen Farm Credit Services of America employees raised their hands to help EPIC for Girls prepare for their fundraiser: An EPIC Day with Dawn Staley.
EPIC for Girls researches, advocates for, and funds innovative and long-lasting solutions that address inequalities in sports for young women of color.

Volunteer Voices: Jack, Cake4Kids volunteer
At Cake4Kids, volunteers bake and deliver free, custom birthday cakes for underserved children. They may be in group homes, at a domestic violence or human trafficking shelter, in low-income housing with or without a parent, or even homeless. They aim to raise their self-esteem and confidence with a seemingly simple gift on their special day. It may just be a cake, but the children they bake for know that a stranger took the time and effort to do something special just for them.
Volunteer Voices: Stacy, cake maker for Open Door Mission
Stacy has been crafting smiles and spreading joy for birthday girls and boys for over a decade. Arriving multiple times each month at Open Door Mission’s Lydia House with a noticeable pink box in hand, Stacy has made it her mission to bring happiness to children at the emergency shelter by providing personalized cakes for each child on their birthday.
"I love that kids know what the pink box means," Stacy says. “It’s time for their day of celebration, a moment of joy, and a birthday memory to hold onto."
Volunteer Voices: Kayla
When we heard of Kayla's community-wide volunteerism, using SHARE Omaha to find opportunities, we wanted to hear more about what's motivating her to continue giving her time. Tune in to the Volunteer Voices video below and hear how Kayla has even made her service contagious.
"It helps me feel my cup," she says.
