Shelterbelt Theatre
Shelterbelt Theatre is Omaha's home for new plays. We develop, workshop and produce new works by local and national playwrights that engage and inspire our audiences. We are looking for a new home. After 25 years in one location, Shelterbelt has reopened in our new location, 4383 Nicholas St #204 Omaha, NE 68131. Shelterbelt is one of the few arts organizations who exists largely on ticket sales. The process of moving to a new location incurs up-front costs - construction and other - that ticket sales just can't cover. We are raising funds to cover additional rent, new seating, lighting equipment and other items, so that we can concentrate on what we do best - bringing exciting, original theatre to Omaha. We're looking forward to introducing Omaha to an engaging, new theatre venue. Shelterbelt presents 5 or six main stage original plays annually, focusing on local and regional playwrights. We have continued to host a popular reading series, Before the Boards, with four slots that offer local playwrights an opportunity to hear their play in front of a live audience in a staged reading, with feed back from post-reading discussion and written audience comments. We also produce a variety of innovative alternative and educational programs
- Shelterbelt has shared 53 playwrights (full-length productions) with Omaha since 1993.
- Shelterbelt has served over 100,000 patrons with 153 productions, readings and cabarets.
- We are looking to raise $300,000 to get us into a new home.
