What We Do
Parkinson's Nebraska is on a mission to be the primary source of Parkinson's disease education, support, and services in Nebraska. We offer responsive programming in the form of specialized exercise classes, support groups, and educational programs. We respect that each individual's journey with Parkinson's disease is very unique, and we are committed to responding the needs of our community.
We understand that the need is great, as Nebraska has one of the highest rates of Parkinson's disease diagnosis in the country. This past year our focus has been on increasing services in the under-served, rural communities across Nebraska. In July, we partnered with the Parkinson's Foundation to train 55 Nebraska professionals how to design and implement a Parkinson's exercise program. As a result there will be 21 new Parkinson's exercise classes, with 14 serving rural and under-served communities.
We are also committed to bringing other services, such as support groups and educational programs to communities across the state. Working with national and local partners, we have been able to begin 3 new supports groups in Nebraska in 2019, and have connected facilitators with speakers and resources for their groups. Parkinson's Nebraska provides free educational presentations to support groups, facilities, professional organizations, and businesses to spread awareness and share Parkinson's disease resources with the community.
