What We Do
At Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium, we strive to provide a world-class wildlife experience that engages, educates and inspires more than two million visitors each year to conserve and protect our natural world.
We are known for being one of Nebraska’s most popular tourist attractions, however, we never forget that our purpose and mission is to be lifelong stewards for animals, their habitats and their conservation – and that starts with the animals in our care.
We are respected worldwide as a leader in animal training, nutrition, enrichment, environments and veterinary care and we continue to innovate and make critical advances for the well-being of the animals in our collection with every passing year.
We also lead and participate in crucial conservation efforts worldwide. From helping to reforest Madagascar in a way that is both environmentally and economically sustainable, to pioneering artificial insemination techniques in critically endangered animals, to saving species of everything from ferns, corals, frogs, tiger beetles and so many other living things the world over, the Zoo’s tireless teams of scientists and keepers have dedicated their lives to protecting the earth’s precious biodiversity.
Closer to home, our education department serves students from pre-K to college (and beyond) with formal, accredited programs such as our Little Lions preschool, kindergarten and Zoo Academy High School, as well as informal classes, camps and other programming for all ages.
