Omaha Street School, Inc.
Omaha Street School serves a diverse group of teens who all have been unsuccessful in traditional education settings. We are unique in Omaha due to our size (30 students and 8:1 teacher to student ratio), mentoring and guardrails for each student, mental/behavioral health support in groups and individually, and emotional support and encouragement during and after probation. Most of our students have suffered multiple traumas leading to both mental and behavioral issues. Our Licensed Mental Health Professional helps students focus on “what can be” while learning to deal with “what has been”. Our academic program culminates in a high school diploma, while we also train seniors to be leaders and serve in the community (Leadership Academy). We work with graduates to pursue a career or education (GAP U), and our HUDL groups allow students to feel empathy and support each other.
- Over the last 21 years, we have supported at least 80 students per year plus their family members for an average of 240-250 people per year.
- High school dropouts are 8 times more likely to be incarcerated at a cost to taxpayers of at least $37,000 a year.
- We hope to open at least three satellite locations in the Omaha area to serve our population of teens in different part of the city.
