Omaha Permaculture
Omaha Permaculture’s mission is to foster community through sustainable land stewardship. We maintain vacant lots for the city of Omaha so that we can provide them as gardening spaces for new Americans and other would-be gardeners who don’t have enough land to grow on. Through our gardens and food forests, we are creating edible landscapes that benefit both people and wildlife, all on some of Omaha’s most forgotten or ignored properties!
Our new headquarters site, known as the GreenSpace, is an 8.5-acre property that serves as our urban permaculture incubator. It’s a gathering space for public workshops, trainings, and volunteer engagement opportunities. The property is home to chickens, honeybee hives, a wood milling and drying warehouse, coldframe greenhouses, and much more!
- Over the last 3 years, we have planted 300+ new trees at the GreenSpace, including dozens of fruit and nut trees.
- We mill our own wood for garden infrastructure: garden beds, garden signs & benches, 12' picnic tables, tool sheds, etc.
- Our largest community garden is tended by 12 families in the Karen community and feeds over 100 people!
