The Omaha Mounted Foundation supports the Omaha Police Department's Mounted Patrol Unit. With a limited city budget, the foundation serves to raise the funds needed to help support the horses in the unit. 100% of the donations accepted by the OMF go back to the unit in the form of animals, tack, alternative therapies, barn equipment, transportation, veterinary needs and any other requirements of the unit.
The city's mounted patrol unit plays a dual and vital role: ensuring public safety and building positive relationships with both residents and visitors. Their presence provides security, while also fostering a welcoming atmosphere as they engage with the community. Mounted officers are highly visible, which helps deter crime and makes them approachable for anyone seeking assistance or information.
- Mounted Patrol officers and their horses are excellent ambassadors for establishing and maintaining positive relations between the community and the police.
- The unit houses 9-12 horses on average and includes six officers, one Sergeant and one barn manager.
- We strive for Interaction with residents, business owners and tourists with the goal of making Omaha a safe, attractive place to live, do business and work.
