Notre Dame Sisters

Humbly Meeting unmet needs in Omaha for 100+ years

We, Notre Dame Sisters, strive to meet the unmet needs of those in our community and throughout the world through service to our communities. We have been working humbly in Omaha for more than 100 years, addressing needs in the community in ways most people may not know about.  This Giving Tuesday, we are inviting our friends and supporters to join us in a powerful mission: to share in our ministries and make a lasting impact.

In that spirit, we offer this Giving Tuesday as an opportunity to partner with us in extending care and compassion to those in need. This year, all contributions will be evenly divided among two vital ministries—Omaha Welcomes the Stranger and Safe Homes. Omaha Welcomes the Stranger opens its arms to refugees and asylum seekers, helping them build new lives with the support and warmth of our community. Safe Homes provides a lifeline for survivors of domestic violence, offering safety, stability, and a path toward independence.

Together, these ministries honor the Sisters’ legacy of "welcoming hearts and open doors." Join us as we extend care, compassion, and Christ’s love to those enduring hardship, and help us continue to make a difference in Omaha and beyond.

Interesting Info
  • Sisters originally came to Omaha at the request of Father Flangan to teach at his first boy's home. They then established their own school, Notre Dame Academy.
  • Safe Homes provides first month's rent to local women graduating from programs at a domestic violence shelter.
  • There are four Sisters serving on Omaha Welcomes the Stranger Board—two Mercy Sisters, one Servant of Mary Sister, and one Notre Dame Sister.
