What We Do

The Nebraska Poetry Society promotes our local poets and provides opportunities for people of all backgrounds and skill levels to learn and enjoy poetry. We believe everyone should have equal opportunity and access to poetry. We host virtual workshops for beginners and professionals to learn, explore, and grow in their craft. Our virtual Nebraska Poets Reading Series is free and open to the public. It features a different Nebraska poet each month with a reading and discussion of their work and craft. We select and train spoken word poets to represent Nebraska at the BlackBerry Peach National Slam competition and would love to have a sponsor for this - preferably someone who wants to support equity and diversity. We have in-person open mics and slams every month. We are working on our 2nd in-person Poetry Retreat and Convention and would love to have sponsors.

Interesting Info
  • We are educating and inspiring youth and adults across Nebraska to compete in poetry slams at the National level
  • The NEA's 2018 study proved poetry readership to be on the rise with a 5% increase since 2012
  • We aim to help our Nebraska poets become leaders in their field
