What We Do

Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy - HETRA - improves the quality of life both physically and emotionally of adults and children of all ability levels through equine-assisted activities.

Our programs and services include:

ADAPTIVE RIDING

Adaptive riding is an equine-assisted activity for the purpose of contributing positively to the cognitive, physical, emotional and social well-being of individuals with special needs.

THERAPY SERVICES

Our Therapy Services are conducted by an Occupational, Physical or Speech Therapist (OT, PT, ST). HETRA's Therapists specialize in Hippotherapy and have been specially trained to use the movement of the horse to facilitate improvements in their client/patient.

ADAPTIVE CARRIAGE DRIVING

HETRA offers participants that do not wish to be or cannot be mounted on a horse the rewards of interaction and control of a horse while driving from a carriage seat.

EQUINE SERVICES FOR VETERANS & FIRST RESPONDERS

Veterans and First Responders of any age and type of disability are encouraged to explore participation in this program. Our Veteran & First Responder program is designed to evaluate and provide opportunities for improvement physically, mentally and socially for participants.

LIFE SKILLS

Year Round and Summer This program provides a comprehensive educational program to individuals with disabilities. Our agricultural and equine-based campus provides participants with a hands-on learning experience where development takes place through an expanse of activity found in our unique agricultural barn environment.

EQUINE ASSISTED LEARNING

HETRA also offers Equine Assisted Learning for group team-building activities.
