At Heartland Citizen Advocacy, Inc. our mission is to match people with developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, or a mental illness with a volunteer advocate from the community who will promote, protect and defend that person's welfare an interests. Heartland Citizen Advocacy presumes that “regular” people are more than qualified to care about and go to bat for a fellow human being! Advocates are all ages and come from all walks of life, each bringing their own very individual range of life experiences and skills. Many are active people, some working full time. Advocates consciously choose to weave this voluntary role into their busy lives. There are likely to be some commonly held beliefs among those who say “yes” to becoming an advocate.
- Since 2014, we have supported 241 matches in Nebraska. A Citizen Advocacy may assume one or more advocacy roles, some of which may last for life.
- Heartland Citizen Advocacy, Inc. was started in Nebraska in 1970. There are now 5 offices in our state, in addition to others in Canada, Europe, and Australia.
- We continuously look for those who are most vulnerable in our communities who are in need of an advocate..
