What We Do
Heart Ministry Center provides food, healthcare and a way forward for people severely affected by poverty in the Omaha area.
Due to the increased volume seen in the Heart Ministry Center's drive thru food pantry and the increased demand for case management services the Heart Ministry Center appreciates financial contributions.
Choice Food Pantry
The Heart Ministry Center offers a “choice” food pantry. Pantry clients can choose from a variety of bread, meat, produce, and canned or boxed items.
Fresh Start Job Placement Program
Fresh Start provides an opportunity for participants to learn job skills, effective workplace communication and customer service skills while helping to serve others in the community. The Center provides employment placement assistance for graduates of the program.
The Heart Ministry Center may be able to help with more than just food, medical care and other basic necessities. Center social workers and case managers can meet with clients individually to discuss assistance or referrals to other resources for SNAP, housing, finances, transportation, parenting, and other areas of need.
Porto Urgent Care Clinic
The Porto Urgent Care Clinic provides free basic medical care on a walk-in basis. Creighton University nurse practitioners can treat everyday health problems like the flu, sore throat or infections. Basic screenings for diabetes and blood pressure, as well as flu shots are available.
Gary L. Maag Dental Clinic
Volunteer dentists provide free dental care to clients at the Heart Ministry Center. Dental services are focused on pain alleviation through teeth extractions and cavity fillings.Additional Services
The Heart Ministry Center offers other services and programs on a weekly or monthly basis. Attorneys provide free legal advice on civil matters related to family law, employment and landlord-tenant disputes.
Holidays and Special Events
Throughout the year, the Center offers various special events to better meet the needs of clients. These special events may include holiday pantries, back-to-school events, health screenings or block parties. Check the center calendar or contact the Center to ask about upcoming events.
