What We Do

Heart Heroes provides support to children and families affected by Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) through the distribution of superhero capes, programs to offer hope, and awareness initiatives to increase funding for CHD research. A Heart Hero is a child born with an abnormality of the heart that is present at birth called a Congenital Heart Defect. On average over 250 babies are born in Nebraska each year with CHD. Many will undergo open-heart surgery, facing developmental and cognitive delays, among numerous other health issues. With the scarcity of awareness of CHD, support is absent. Heart Heroes has established a network of support to meet the needs of these families and partners with local organizations like Bags of Fun, Munroe Meyer Institute, UNMC, and Children's Hospital to support these children and their families during their time of need and beyond.
