What We Do

Healing Ribbons (HR) is a grassroots organization that promotes holistic wellbeing, healing, positive cultural identity and cultural revitalization.  HR started when several intergenerational  Indigenous women came together to sew and create as a way to honor and remember the loved ones we lost and heal from historical trauma.  Much of this loss was a result of the recent COVID-19 pandemic we all endured.

HR is currently staffed by a dedicated group of Indigenous matriarchal volunteers, utilizing the traditional circle leadership model. Founded on the belief that there is power in gathering to share, celebrate, heal and create as a community, we honor the wisdom of our knowledge keepers, drawing upon their expertise to collaborate with each other to share, maintain, learn and celebrate the vibrant cultures and traditions in our community.

Healing Ribbons’ mission is to promote holistic wellbeing, healing, personal and economic empowerment, positive cultural identity and cultural revitalization among intergenerational Indigenous Women and their families.

The cornerstone of our efforts is to forge a path of renewal, create lasting positive change, promote equity and build resilient communities for Indigenous women and their families by nurturing their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health to help foster a sense of balance and wholeness. We attempt to achieve this by creating safe and supportive spaces that facilitate healing journeys by reclaiming our cultural heritages through sewing, regalia making, sharing circles, wellness activities, ceremonies, healthy fellowship meals and working together to create culturally significant clothing for use in traditional ceremonies, pow wows and community gatherings.
