The Guiding Light Foundation is a faith based non profit 501(c)(3) organization that promotes activities, education and partnerships that support the health and human service needs of individuals, youth and families. Our team of volunteers include educators, advocates, entrepreneurs and community leaders who are willing to use their expertise for the aspirations of our youth and their families.
The GLF After School Program is for students ages 5-14. Our GLF tutors and mentors offer help with homework, teach students how to prepare for tests and other academic challenges. The after school literacy program offers academic support to assist students with IMPROVING reading and/or writing skills. The Keeping Kids Fed Program provides healthy snacks for the students. Our basketball, cheer and dances programs promote leadership development, self confidence, responsibility, being part of a team, preparation for future basketball, cheer, dance, Pom Pom & the team experience!
GLF is currently working with educational partners and leaders to offer a 5 week course over the summer which will focus on STEAM Education. This program is part of our Saturday Academy which is dedicated to science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Also, as a part of the Liberal Arts, the GLF will offer an educational program on journalism, photojournalism, photography and writing as a career.
Together these programs help close the gap on academic disparities and food insecurities while providing a safe space for our youth to thrive.
- The GLF recently partnered with Keep Omaha Beautiful and SPARK to help plant 175 trees along the newly North Omaha Trail to help keep North Omaha Beautiful.
- The GLF currently provides tutoring, mentoring and healthy snacks to approximately 15- 25 youth on a weekly basis.
- The GLF provides cheer and dance for youth ages 5-14, performing at community events, volunteers for charity including the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign
