What We Do

We are the largest food bank in Nebraska and western Iowa and serve as a clearinghouse to distribute food (fresh produce, dairy and shelf stable food) to nearly 600 network partner organizations.

Food Bank for the Heartland is currently involved with assessing community needs related to flood relief, along with The Red Cross and Salvation Army. To help fund the logistics of distributing food and water into Iowa/Nebraska communities, please donate now and use the donation code “FLOOD”.

Donations of food and water may be delivered to the Food Bank for the Heartland warehouse at 10525 J Street in Omaha. Volunteers are also needed to help assemble the food deliveries going out to ravaged areas. Please apply to volunteer now through the “Pack, sort and stock food to fight hunger!” posting below.

+++Please visit SHAREomaha.org/COVID19 for our most immediate needs.

Interesting Info

Every dollar donated could provide up to three meals to hungry neighbors. Because we buy in bulk, we can stretch your dollar further.
We serve 93 counties in NE and western IA; of the 1.8 million residents in the area, over 209,000 are considered food insecure - nearly 80,000 are children.
Our goal is to close the meal gap in our service area by providing 39 million meals per year by 2025.
