What We Do
Family Housing Advisory Services’ (FHAS) mission is to improve housing opportunities and eliminate poverty. FHAS accomplishes its mission through the following major programs: Tenant Services Program - Homeless prevention, rental counseling, housing assistance and advocacy to assist persons to avoid homelessness & locate permanent housing. The Fair Housing Center of Nebraska and Iowa - Provides comprehensive fair housing services, including intake and investigation of housing discrimination complaints, fair housing consumer and industry education and training statewide in Nebraska and Iowa. Homeownership Program: Pre-Purchase Education - Prepares consumers for the home buying (asset development) process through monthly, 12-hour workshops. An online pre-purchase education course is also available. Foreclosure Prevention: Provides one-on-one counseling and advocacy for persons who are currently delinquent or in imminent default of their mortgage loan. Financial/Asset Management - Provides financial education, matched savings (as available), budgeting, credit and savings, and coaching. Clients also receive one-on-one counseling, follow-up support counseling, and credit history review assistance. Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Coalition - Provides quality volunteer tax return preparation, leverages community partnerships and works to create strategies to improve savings for low to moderate-income families.
