In every kid’s story, there should be someone who believes in them—no matter what. Mentorship connects youth with someone like you who's ready to show up, stick around and make a difference. These one-on-one relationships help young people grow stronger, dream bigger and push through life’s hurdles with confidence. Whether it’s school struggles, tough transitions or simply needing someone to talk to, mentors are there. Because when a young person feels supported, there’s no limit to what they can do.
84 youth are waiting for a mentor right now.
Become a mentor today at BBBSMidlands.org!
We offer two distinct programs that let you decide how you can make a positive impact on youth in our community in a way that best fits your lifestyle.
Community-Based Mentoring:
Our Community-Based Mentoring program allows adult mentors "Bigs" and youth "Littles" to share activities on their own schedules. Matches typically meet up on weekends or evenings for at least four hours a month. We encourage free or low-cost activities like bike riding, board games, baking or just taking a walk.
One of the most important pieces of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program is that Bigs are able to provide their Littles with a chance to be inspired and try something new. Littles are able to explore new environments and learn skills that they may not have otherwise had an opportunity to experience.
- 1 year minimum commitment
- 2 outings per month for a total of 4 hours
- Mentees: ages 7-14
- Mentors may register, interview, train and be matched online or in person
MentorU (Technology-Enhanced Mentoring):
In the MentorU program, we match adult mentors with high school students. This Site-Based Mentoring program is only offered at Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln high schools in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Millard North, Horizon and Ralston High Schools in Omaha. The objective of this program is to help students who are enrolled in an academic enrichment class stay on track for graduation and success.

- 2.5 hours per month
- Weekly online messages and 1 in-person meeting every 6 weeks
