**Nebraska Medicine is not placing volunteers at this time due to COVID-19.** Ambassadors (NMC, Bellevue & Village Pointe) • Be a welcoming presence to guests on the medical center campuses and help them navigate their way through the facility. (Weekdays, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.) • NEW! – Surgery Ambassadors (Weekdays, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.) Radiology Ambassadors (Weekdays 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.) Bedside Tablets/ Inpatient floors (NMC & Bellevue) • The primary role of volunteers in this position is to explain to patients how to use the Bedside Tablet program. Volunteers will work with patients and their families to sign up for Bedside MyChart, OneChart and explain the other features of the tablets. (Weekdays, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. and 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.) Child Life / Inpatient Pediatrics (NMC) • To assist the Child Life staff in providing diversionary activities for hospitalized children, help promote a positive sense of self-esteem and a positive hospital experience. (Weekdays & Weekends, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.) Clarkson Gift Shop and CornerStone Gifts (NMC) • Assist customers as they shop for gifts, flowers, candy and other merchandise at the gift shops. Proceeds from the shops are donated to support special projects at the medical center. (Clarkson: M/W/F 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., T/Th 9 a.m. – 7 p.m., Weekends Noon – 4 p.m.) (CornerStone: Weekdays 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.) Department Assistant (NMC, Bellevue & Village Pointe) • Assist patients and families in clinic and provide administrative support to staff. Departments included but not limited to: (Weekdays, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) o Bariatric Clinic (NMC) o Cardiac Rehab (NMC) o Diabetes Center (NMC) o Internal Medicine Specialty Clinic (NMC) o Maternity Waiting Area (Bellevue – late afternoons, evenings & weekends) o Medical Staff Office (NMC) o Midtown Clinic (NMC) o Multi Organ Transplant Clinic (NMC) o Neurology Clinic (NMC) o Olson Women’s Center (NMC) o Radiation Oncology (NMC) o Resource & Wellness Center (NMC) o Physical Therapy (NMC) o Weigel Williamson Center for Vision (NMC) o Wound Clinic (NMC) o Volunteer Services Office (NMC) Emergency Department (NMC & Bellevue) • Support families and staff by performing a variety of essential non-medical duties. Must be at least 18 years of age to volunteer. (NMC - Weekdays & Weekends, 6 a.m. – Midnight) (Bellevue – Weekdays 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. & Weekends, 1 p.m. – 10 p.m.) Heart & Vascular Center (NMC) • Volunteers will monitor the waiting room, assisting visitors, walking family members to correct locations such as consultation rooms and cath lab as well as supporting the staff with departmental assistance work. (Weekdays, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) Home Instead Center for Successful Aging (NMC) • Welcome guests to the center; oversee the waiting room. Support staff with various duties in the clinic and Engage Center. (Weekdays, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) Hospitality Cart (Bellevue) • Enhance the comfort of adult patients and their guests by sharing items from the hospitality cart …Crossword Puzzles, Word Search, Magazines, Playing Cards, etc. (Weekdays, Hours Varied) Infusion Center & Cancer Clinics (NMC & Village Pointe) • Support patients and their families as they attend clinic visits and infusion treatments. Perform hospitality and department assistant tasks. (Weekdays, Weekends (NMC only) 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.) Patient Mail (NMC) • Brighten patients’ day by delivering their mail and Well Wishers e-mails. (Weekdays, afternoons) Special Projects (NMC, Bellevue & Village Pointe) • Help with special projects, activities and events as the needs are identified, in a variety of departments. (As needed) ________________________________________ Volunteer Opportunities – Additional Training & Requirements Angel Hearts & Hands (NMC, Bellevue & Village Pointe) • Individual volunteers or groups interested in knitting, sewing and crafting projects to benefit our patients. Projects include, but are not limited to, Prayer Shawls, Lap Blankets, and Turbans. Animal Assisted Therapy (Pet Therapy) (NMC) • Animal Assisted Therapy (Pet Therapy) at Nebraska Medicine is a method of reducing stress incurred by hospitalization giving patients the benefits of shared pet companionship. Your dog must be a certified pet therapy dog with a recognized organization to participate. (Weekdays, Varied Hours) Spiritual Care (NMC & Bellevue) • Ensures patients are connected with their spiritual communities and/or the medical center’s resources. An interview with a representative of Spiritual Care is required prior to placement. (Weekdays & Weekends, As Needed)
