Team Bike Rescue of Omaha recycles bicycles and re-purposes them for underprivileged children. We work with and through other non-profits that seek bicycles for incentive programs, health programs, STEM, educational purposes and for transportation to school, work or around town. We gladly accept any bicycle in any condition and will assist with picking them up. We refurbish well over 400 bicycles through our shop. In all we receive and repurpose 700 plus bicycles with the assistance of other non-profits. We help teach adults and children how to work on bikes, we team up with other nonprofits for events so that kids can earn bikes through learning/education, community service, physical activity and so on.
We now offer after-school programs and have taught over 48 students how to ride a bicycle in 2023-2024 school year and are currently on track in 2024-2025 school year to surpass that number. We teach kids how to repair, maintain, A.B.C. of bicycle, riding safety, helmets. hand signals, community service. We gift our bikes to kids for free, having some investment into that reward enhances their chance to learn about succeeding, giving back, earning instead of receiving a handout, sharing responsibilities, work ethics, compassion and on.
- We teamed up with the Omaha Police, Gang Unit, Fire Department, FitGirl Inc, Stephens Center, Generation Diamond and other local nonprofits who work with kids.
- We earned the Jefferson Award from the State of Nebraska and the Fire Department Citizen Award for community service in 2017.
- We hope to work with and for at-risk children and the less fortunate in our community through mentoring and other activities.
