Do you love history, learning new things, and enjoy sharing your knowledge with others? A volunteer role in our Education & Engagement areas could be perfect for you! We need volunteers for the museum's various educational programs such as: Daily Activities, Education Ambassadors, Docents, Gallery Guides, Platform Patrol, and Train Car Host. Typical volunteer shifts range from 2-4 hours depending on the activity and can be scheduled according to your availability.
- With Daily Programs, volunteers welcome guests to the permanent exhibits with additional artifacts, activities, photos and engaging questions.
- Do you want to go on a Field Trip? The Durham Museum serves around 15,000 students and teachers, and counting just through our school-year field trip program. Field trips at The Durham are free for all schools and this is helped made possible by the support of our Ambassadors and Docents. Both roles are needed year-round for student field trips and adult groups that want a unique, guided experience at our National Historic Landmark.
- Gallery Guides move throughout the museum greeting and interacting with visitors. Spend your day amongst temporary exhibitions from all over the world or engage with guests in our permanent exhibitions.
- Volunteers in our Platform Patrol role will interact with children, families and adults to engage them in creative activities while keeping the area safe and organized.
- Train Car Hosts greet guests as they climb aboard the train cars to take a trip back in time.
There are so many choices in our engagement programs we are sure you'll find something you love. We are happy to meet with you and answer any questions about our program and organization!
