Sorting and Organizing Volunteers

This volunteer opportunity occurs in the “back of the house” dock and storage areas of our emergency shelter, following safety guidelines that include hand washing, glove use and mask use. Responsibilities include, although are not limited to:

  • Arriving five minutes prior to the start of your volunteer shift.
  • Receiving and unloading in-kind donations (e.g. clothing, personal care/hygiene items, cleaning supplies, etc). 
  • Sorting and organizing in-kind donations items in storage areas and in the pantry. 
  • Helping prepare breakfast pastries for the following morning (Pantry volunteers, only).
  • Re-stocking, organizing, and cleaning shelves in pantry, walk-in refrigerator, and walk-in freezer. 
  • Assisting with floor maintenance/ sweeping, deck scrubbing and mopping.

While performing the duties of this job, the volunteer is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, and talk and  hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, and reach with hands and arms.
