These volunteers are trained to care for wildlife at our Wildlife Center. A minimum of 16 hours of training is required, while some positions/animals require additional training. Wildlife Care Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of one 3 or 4 hour shift per week at our Baldwin Wildlife Center.
Bird, Herptile, and Mammal Nursery Training Classes are only held September through March. Depending on volunteer interest & staff availability, more of these training classes may be scheduled between April and August.
NWR's current COVID-19 policy requires all volunteers working around the animals (including transporters) to be COVID vaccinated with a vaccine/booster that has been received within the last 12 months. We have this policy due to certain species of wild animals we get in, like bobcats & mustelids, that can contract and die from COVID-19.
Volunteers must be over the age of 18.
