Food Pantry Volunteer

Purpose: To assist in day to day activities at SSVP Omaha's Food Pantry, providing clients with needed food and in support of the Society's mission of serving poor and struggling Omaha families in need.

Essential Duties and Roles

Tuesday and Thursday volunteers (aka "Pantry Companions") accompany neighbors who visit the pantry, ensuring that they are able to obtain the food they need to feed their families. Monday and Wednesday volunteers sort food donations and re-stock the pantry's shelves, in anticipation of Tuesday's and Thursday's "open pantry" hours, when neighbors come to obtain food.

Location Downtown. 2101 Leavenworth Street (west end of the building).

Shifts: Monday and Wednesday: 8am-10:30 am and Tuesday and Thursday: 9am-12:30pm

Requirements: Good communication skills. Ability to stand, bend, lift, climb and carry up to 40 pounds. Age requirement is 18 years and greater. Compliance to health guidelines e.g. masks, gloves, social distancing etc., and respectful workplace policies.
