Facilitators and room helpers in our support groups are the soul of what we do. These compassionate, dedicated, and dynamic volunteers lead our peer-to-peer groups, opening discussion and healing between participants. In each group or breakout group, a team of two adult facilitators work together to create an environment of hope and healing between peers of a similar age and/or developmental stage. For interested volunteers, there are two ways to get started.
In order to become a support group facilitator, one must first complete our 20-hour Grief Facilitator Training, a comprehensive training that prepares adults to lead grief support groups and includes a training curriculum and suggested activities. Over the two days of training, we will dive into the nuances of bereavement, lived experiences, and how to foster support among different developmental stages. Graduates are then prepared and invited to be a lead facilitator in our programming.
If one has not attended training or wants to learn more before committing, we welcome them as room helpers. Under guidance of a trained facilitator, the room helpers continue to engage participants in activity and/or discussion. Room helpers have access to a wealth of resources, including our curriculum, to guide them throughout their volunteerism.
We are seeking volunteers for our next 8-week Family Support Group! Orientation is on Tuesday, March 18th at 5:30pm; groups begin Monday, March 24 and volunteers can expect a time commitment of 5:45pm-8:15pm.
Together, we can give hope to those who need it most - volunteer now!
