What We Do

Benson Area Refugee Taskforce (BART) is now REFUGEE WOMEN RISING (RWR). For 10 years, BART was a catalyst for meaningful action to support refugees in Omaha through education, empowerment and relationship. After listening to various refugee communities throughout Omaha, RWR is pivoting to invest in an often-overlooked population—providing the tools for refugees women to become empowered & autonomous.
Through "right relationships", we collaborate with refugee women to further themselves personally & professionally.
Our HomeDish dinner program invites women to sit with & listen to the stories of refugee women, while enjoying foods from their homelands. HomeDish is a co-creative experience, mutually benefitting refugee chefs & guests.
Our upcoming programming will include culturally-appropriate self-care workshops, driver's education for women, cultural integration experiences & multilingual financial education.

Interesting Info

There are 125 different languages spoken in Omaha Public Schools.
We pledge to include refugee voices in each initiative we undertake, especially uplifting women.
Refugees must repay the cost of their plane ticket (known as a travel loan) beginning 6 months after their arrival to the U.S. Average cost is $1200/ticket.
