What We Do
The Life House provides diapers and food to low-income families while raising awareness of the basic health needs for diapers and food. The Life House, located in the Prairie Lane neighborhood, is Omaha's Diaper Bank and a neighborhood food pantry. We are open to the community twice a month.
Diapers and food are basic needs for families in the U.S.; as essential to their health and well-being as shelter and clothing, yet one in three families in Nebraska struggle to afford clean diapers and one in five children are at risk for hunger.
Diaper Need is a new concept for many. For families who stretch every dollar, the extra burden of $70 to $125 for diapers per child every month can be the breaking point. According to the Medicaid births in Douglas County, we have almost 12,000 children who suffer from diaper need. We currently have families driving to us from ten other counties and are serving 48 different zip codes in our community.
The Life House was the first agency in Nebraska to partner with the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN), and we are the only agency partner in the Omaha area.
Our goal is to eliminate the existence of diaper need in our community so that all babies have a chance to be healthy, happy and safe. The Life House Diaper Bank provides 60-70 diapers, or a 2 week supply, per child to the partner organization.
