D2 Center-Directions to Diploma
D2 Center-Directions to Diploma’s wish is for all young people in our community to have what they need to achieve their education and life goals. Every day we advocate with and for them to earn a diploma that will support the future they want and deserve.
Our students come from all neighborhoods throughout Omaha and have the potential to better our city. Helping them achieve their goals results in more young adults being prepared for further education and training, jobs and careers, and being positive contributors in our community. They are tomorrow’s workforce, and you can help them by investing in their hope and aspirations!
Gifts move our mission forward in the following ways:
- $52 provides funds for two students to receive remote tutoring assistance (2 students, 1 certified teacher) for 1.5 hours (via Zoom or Microsoft Teams)
- $1,000 provides funds for one D2 Center Career Navigator to assist 15 D2 Center seniors or graduates for two hours in person (1:1) with postsecondary activities (applying to Metro CC, completing the FAFSA, completing a scholarship application, creating a professional resume, filling out a job application, etc.)
- $7,500 provides funds for one Youth Academic Navigator to build relationships with 7 students in the D2 Center program who are off track to graduate from high school on time -- or may not graduate at all without support -- as well as do outreach activities with 10 students who have dropped out of high school (annual cost)
We show up for students, no matter what, by building real, long-lasting relationships—authentically connecting youth to positive people and possibilities every day. Our services:
- Youth Academic Navigator: YANs are education-focused case managers who check in with their students frequently and help with issues as they emerge to ensure students are making progress and earning credits in school.
- Tutoring & Elective Classes: We offer tutoring remotely via Zoom or Microsoft Teams to our students on an as-needed basis from four Nebraska-certified teachers. We offer three elective credit classes for students who are trying to get back on track and improve their skills: English Elective, Math Elective, and Navigating Your Future (individual, postsecondary focus).
- Career Navigator: The Career Navigators assist students with postsecondary planning and connections for both career and educational opportunities. Services are also available to graduates.
- Reengagement Partnership: We do outreach to hundreds of Omaha Public Schools students who have withdrawn from school but are eligible to reenroll. We assist them with enrollment options and encourage them to get back on the pathway to graduation.
- We have served more than 1,750 students and 870 have graduated from high school. Nearly 300 are still active in the program
- The D2 Center team includes 8 full-time YANs, one part-time Intake Specialist, 3 part-time Career Navigators, & 3 part-time, certified teachers
- '24-'25 goals: serve 400+ students in our Youth Academic Navigator Program, assist 200+ out-of-school students with reenrollment & see 140+ graduate high school
