BBB Wise Giving Alliance - Assists donors in making informed judgments about nonprofits.  Does not rank charities, but evaluates at no charge and posts online for free public access.
Charity Navigator  - Reports on over 3400 charities analyzing fundraising, program and administration expenses.  Ratings and comparisons with like organizations. 
Guidestar (Candid) - Searchable database of U.S. nonprofit organizations. Some listings provide IRS Form 990.
IRS - Tax information for nonprofits.
