Project Extra Mile

Event:
Youth Leadership Network

Open to all Omaha-area youth in grades 8 through 12, Project Extra Mile’s Youth Leadership Network (YLN) group meets on the UNO campus once a month to focus on reducing the harms of excessive alcohol use, including underage drinking, in our communities through action. Using a skills-based approach to leadership development, YLN focuses on four major areas: 1) Awareness of the harms of excessive alcohol use in our community, 2) leadership development and practice, 3) policy change, and 4) community engagement. With a unique focus on developing and implementing student-led projects in the community, YLN allows youth to develop their skills in communication, media development, public speaking, media literacy, and community engagement. Prior student-led projects have included creating educational media campaigns, testifying to local and state policymakers, and hosting community town halls. Youth do not need to have experience to join, everyone is welcome!  Pizza is served so registration is requested using this link.
