Movement in Omaha for Racial Equity (MORE) is pleased to announce a virtual community forum, “African American Legal Issues & Racism in Nebraska,” featuring Potso Mahlangeni-Byndon, Esq. Mahlangeni-Byndon will share details and analyze his recent legal cases defending the rights of African Americans against racism by the City of Omaha.
MORE is an antiracist organization fighting for racial equity in communities through engagement, education, and advocacy. This event takes place Wednesday, May 29th from 7:00-8:00PM via Zoom and Facebook Live. It is free and open to the public.
“I am concerned about the impact of racism within government institutions in Omaha and throughout Nebraska,” Mahlangeni-Byndon said. “African American workers are negatively impacted and should be made aware that there are legal tools for fighting back,” he added.
Mahlangeni-Byndon will dissect recent cases of racial discrimination and sexual harassment in local government and the ongoing challenges African Americans face to get quality legal redress in Nebraska. “Nebraska has a legal system that holds African Americans in triple jeopardy: sexism, racism, and classism,” Mahlangeni-Byndon stated.
During this forum Mahlangeni-Byndon will also discuss the role that law schools can and should play in teaching their students about antiracist advocacy, and how to achieve racial justice in racist and segregated systems.
There will be ample opportunity for forum participants to ask questions and discuss the issues raised during this exciting event. Anyone interested in participating may use this link to register: https://givebutter.com/LegalIssuesNE
