40 Gives 40 is SHARE Omaha's initiative to both help businesses increase employee engagement, advance corporate social responsibility, and help nonprofits fulfill their need for volunteers. Imagine, in 2025 the Omaha metro can lead the nation by being the first with 40 companies who offer 40 hours of paid volunteer time off (VTO), increasing employee retention and eliminating the volunteer shortage our region is currently experiencing.

Why volunteerism?

Omaha area nonprofits report needing an average of 88 more volunteer hours per week per nonprofit to optimally carry out their missions! Your employees can bring incredible value to our community nonprofits as volunteers. In fact, the current national value of volunteerism is $29.95 per volunteer hour.

Why Volunteer Time Off?

Volunteer Time Off (VTO) is a benefit that packs double the impact for businesses. Offering VTO results in employee engagement and retention and helps to attract top talent. 75% of millennials say they would be willing to take a pay cut to work for a socially responsible company, and 64% of millennials say they’d pass on a job offer if they felt a company didn’t have strong corporate responsibility practices. Almost 70% of workers say they want to volunteer more, with the majority of respondents saying their barrier is that they can’t dedicate time during the day to volunteer.

Your company is invited to become a charter member of SHARE Omaha's 40 Gives 40 initiative. Your leadership will help the Omaha metro be the first in the country to provide this corporate commitment to volunteerism, by pledging this benefit for your employees.
