River City Mixed Chorus

Event:
Unbreakable

Join the River City Mixed Chorus and their special guests as they return to the magnificent Orpheum Theater to perform Unbreakable, written by Tony Award-nominated American composer Andrew Lippa (I Am Harvey Milk, The Addams Family, Big Fish, and The Wild Party). Lippa’s epic choral and theatrical work premiered in 2018 when it was performed by the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus as part of their 40th anniversary season. Now RCMC, in its own 40th season, will premiere the mixed chorus version of Lippa’s musical journey through 12 decades of LGBTQ+ history.

This 14-movement, multi-media composition brings into focus both well-known LGBTQ+ activists, such as Marsha P. Johnson, and unsung heroes like Bayard Rustin. Lippa highlights his community’s many tragedies, including the Lavender Scare and AIDS epidemic, and their triumphs, such as marriage equality. Through story and song, he ultimately lays bare the resilient spirit of a community that can only be described as unbreakable.

This performance is 75-minutes long without intermission. One night only!
