Urban Acres Horse Rescue provides sanctuary for injured, unwanted, and aging equines in the heart of North Omaha.
We rescue, rehabilitate, rehome, or provide sanctuary for a variety of farm animals, primarily horses and ponies. Many unwanted and sick animals have come through our barn in the last 30 years, including old mares that were headed to slaughter and hoofstock (cows, pigs, goats, llamas) that were displaced due to unusual circumstances. We provide food, medical care, and emergency housing for any lost animal that comes to our rescue. At present, 11 horses, 1 pony, 1 cat, and many chickens, ducks, and turkeys call Urban Acres home.
For generations, we've been a welcoming and inclusive place for families to introduce their children to horses, and for community members of all backgrounds to not only heal but to thrive with the help of horses. Our dedicated volunteers range from daily barn staff, to teens learning construction and horsemanship skills. On Sundays during warm weather, we host an affordable Hug A Horse event where guests can cuddle resident animals, brush the horses' hair, and even ride a pony.
