Wisdom Wednesday: Navigating the Impacts of Trauma

Experiencing trauma and subsequent triggers impact both the brain and the body causing these systems to go into fight, flight, freeze mode. Being in this survival mode may impact an individual’s ability to remember details, feel comfortable or safe, and develop trust. This training will help participants understand and recognize these trauma responses. Further, it will provide a framework for how participants can support themselves or others regulate their brains and bodies and utilize relationship building strategies to get to “back on track” and into reasoning.

Facilitator Jessica Kroeker, MPA, MSW, PLMHP is Trauma Informed Initiatives Coordinator at Project Harmony and oversees the Trauma Matters Omaha initiative. Her work focuses on training the community on recognizing and responding to trauma and organizing a community-wide, collaborative trauma-informed care network. Jessica provides trauma-focused therapy in rural Nebraska and also worked several years in foster child adoption and permanency services. Jessica earned her Master’s in Public Administration and Master’s in Social Work from the University of Nebraska at Oma
