Speaking of Children Luncheon & Conference - Canceled

Speaking of Children, in partnership with the United States Attorney’s Office-District of Nebraska, Children’s Hospital & Medical Center and Project Harmony Child Advocacy Center, is a two-day conference including phenomenal plenary presentations and break-out sessions for Law Enforcement, Prosecutors, CPS Workers, Medical Providers, Victim Advocates and Treatment & Prevention Providers. Speaking of Children, with the mission of inspiring and educating the community in the fight against child abuse, is Project Harmony’s signature event which engages everyone in the community to learn about and join in our efforts to end child abuse and neglect. Held this year at the CHI Health Center Omaha attracts more than 1200 participants each year since 2008. While the state-of-the-art trainings are focused on professional advancement, these sessions and the Luncheon are open to all interested community members.

This year's Keynote speaker is Diana Nyad. Diana Nyad proved to the world that the power of the human spirit cannot be measured nor denied. In 2013, at the unlikely age of 64, Nyad became the first and only person in history to swim non-stop the 110.86 miles from Havana, Cuba, to Key West, Florida. Nyad is a world-class storyteller, from her best-selling memoir, Find a Way, to her reputation as a riveting public speaker to her recent success performing her stage play off-Broadway.

And audiences respect Diana for her strength and joy, in the wake of terrifying sexual abuse at the hands of her coach through her high school years. Diana’s op-ed essay about her childhood trauma in the New York Times in 2017 drew 200,000 plus responses and Diana is determined to raise her voice on behalf of victims, dedicated to changing the culture of sexual abuse in our nation. As Diana expresses it: “It’s time to end the culture of shame and silence millions of us have been forced to endure.”
