Omaha Performing Arts Voices AMPLIFIED! Finale – Omaha’s Forgotten Century

The Voices AMPLIFIED! season finale event is free and will be held at the Orpheum Theater. The production will feature a 60-minute dramatic musical theater performance created by Broadway actor, choreographer and Omaha native Ray Mercer. It will include New York and Omaha-based musicians, dancers and visual artists as well as community members. The commissioned work will be framed around oral and written history of Black and Latino Omaha. The full creative team for Omaha’s Forgotten Century is as follows:

Creative Director and Choreographer Ray Mercer – Broadway actor, dancer and choreographer in his 17th year as a dancer and fight captain in Disney’s The Lion King

Director Kathy Tyree – award-winning Omaha director and performer

Creative consultant Jade Rogers – historian, educator at Metropolitan Community College and UNO and the Founder and Chief Innovation Officer of The House of Afros, Capes, & Curls

Scriptwriter Peggy Jones – Associate Professor, past Interim Chairperson of the Black Studies Department, and Women's and Gender Studies faculty at UNO

Creative consultant Linda Garcia – local artist and co-founder of Mexican American Society of the Midlands

Creative consultant Jose Garcia – local artist and co-founder of Mexican American Society of the Midlands

Designer and visual artist Hugo Zamorano – Omaha artist helping to create the backdrop for the Voices AMPLIFIED! finale

Producer and creative consultant Andy Cassano – O-pa Vice President of Programming and Education

Creative consultant Aaron Gregory – O-pa Community Engagement Specialist, dancer and choreographer
