Our Light, Inc.’s mission is to ground each unique participant in every level of our value pyramid. Self-love – accepting every part of who we are, enlightenment, confidence, leadership, and ultimately, in self-respect.

Our Light, Inc. is a very special organization, founded by Kione Lowe in 2017. Growing up in Omaha and attending many after school programs herself as a young person, she learned quickly what she didn’t want when she would create her own after school program years later. She knew that she didn’t want a program that simply felt like babysitting, where young people were corralled from one program to the next without any real interaction or supervision. She knew that she didn’t want a program where young people were too busy participating in activities to create lasting and meaningful relationships, something critical at this phase of their lives. And she didn’t want to create something too big, where people and problems can easily get lost in the mix and blur of constant action.

What is unique about Our Light is that it remains small enough that it can truly focus on building that self-confidence, self-respect, and other skills for its participants. Currently they see up to 100 girls in a year, ages 7 to 10. They focus on activities, but also very much on the bonds between the girls which can be so powerful and important in other parts of their lives when they are away from the protection of Our Light, Inc.
